A little bit about Lovecraft Bar:
The strange, dark fiction of H.P. Lovecraft exerts a pull on this East Village watering hole whose design is studded with occult references (in work by a local artist), portal-like fixtures and steampunk contraptions. Other diversions include live music, food and cocktail menus resembling pulp paperbacks.
There is food too.

A BELATED THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT TO LOVECRAFT
Tuesday December 1, 2015 at 5:12 pm
Hi all,
A belated thank you to the intrepid that came to our gig at Lovecraft on November 14th, just after the Paris terrorist attacks.
We felt weird playing after such a horrific event but sometimes the only thing that makes sense is playing music.
Unfortunately, the video we took of the gig is very very dark, we should have used a night vision camera! Andrea is trying to figure out how to lighten it. But for the meantime, you can peruse a few shots of the gig below and on Facebook.
Take care of yourselves and we’ll play more live shows in 2016!
Love, MAKAR

Friday January 8, 2016 at 4:20 pm
Wow 2016 is off to a great start!!!
Check out our interview on No Depression.
http://nodepression.com/article/chatting-new-york-staple-makar
Here is a taste from writer, Emily Hinde –
“If you are from the New York area, chances are you have heard of MAKAR. Made up of husband-and-wife duo Mark Purnell and Andrea DeAngelis, the two bring to life a familar sound which is starting to branch out across the nation; and beyond! Their most recent release, Funeral Genius, helped to put the group on the map, garnering accolades from critics and radio personalities alike. Fast-forward to 2016 where MAKAR has a BIG year ahead of them. We will see the release of their newest, and highly anticipated venture Fancy Hercules, and as always, expect to see them on the stage. I had the pleasure of speaking with Mark and Andrea regarding their upcoming record, future plans, and what inspires and drives them.”

CHECK OUT OUR INTERVIEW ON ARENA!
Friday January 8, 2016 at 10:19 pm
It’s gonna be a banner year for MAKAR!
Check out our interview on Arena !
https://arena.com/article/makar-talks-new-record-for-2016
before the whole site launches in 14 days
A little preview from writer, Kay Aarons –
MAKAR, the brilliant band who hails from New York, are already creating a stir in the New Year. Made up of Andrea DeAngelis, and Mark Purnell (who are also husband and wife), they prove that they are a mainstay in the indie-folk scene. In recent years, the band had released two records; 99 Cent Dreams and Funeral Genius, and have played venues all over Manhattan, Brooklyn and beyond. In2016 eager listeners will get a brand new earful of MAKAR music as they are set to release their new record, Fancy Hercules. I had the pleasure of speaking with Mark and Andrea, as we explore every aspect of the band, and what treasures the new record will hold.
Read more at -- https://arena.com/article/makar-talks-new-record-for-2016
A little about Arena:
“Arena is fixing a broken industry -- Arena helps independent artists survive in today's music economy by paying a living wage for streams and sales, while rewarding fans for listening to the music they love. We believe that:
Artists should be paid fairly every time their music is streamed or sold.
Fans should be able to listen to their favorite songs anywhere, anytime, without commercials or a monthly subscription.”

Friday August 19, 2016 at 7:26 pm
Check it, check it out!
Our interview with the cool folks at Indie Band Guru is up on their site.
http://indiebandguru.com/interview-with-makar/
But here is a taste below, kind words from the writer, Keith Pro –
“The New York City scene is a very crowded one. Everyone who comes here is given a chance but to have any staying power you must be something special. Our friends from Makar have been a staple of the folk rock scene for the last 14 years. Their sound is powered by guitar and piano that blends indie rock energy, some raw punk, and the intimate feel of folk. Andrea and Mark of Makar are some of the hardest workers out there and they seem to always have fun doing it. We had a chance to chat with them recently and get behind the music.”

Oooh
Oooh
Zombie want your love
Zombie want your love
Zombie want your love
Your love, your love
Your love, your love
Your brain, your pain
Your appendix, your heart
Your small intestine and your spleen
Basically everything
Zombies have rights too
Just like me and you
Isn’t it cruel
To shoot them in the head when they’re already dead
Zombies have rights too
Just like me and you
Zombies have rights too
Zombies have rights too
Zombies have rights too

CHECK OUT OUR INTERVIEW IN MEDIUM FALL/WINTER 2016
Friday December 9, 2016 at 9:59 pm
We are very excited to have our interview with Medium writer, Amy Garon, live.
We are stunned by her words.
“Filled with gorgeous color and stunning imagery, Makar’s Folk-Rock sounds will equally entice and delight you. With their recent release in tow “Funeral Genius,” the group is gearing up for a jumpstart in 2017 on the heels of their long-awaited follow up, “Fancy Hercules.” Their creative and innovative songs drive with a force that is enlightening and delightful, even when the songs gain a dark edge. Makar proves themselves as artists, both musically and lyrically, which makes us want to know more about the rising group.”
She also asked some fantastic questions.

What is Medium?
A network of thought
Content that matters
“Medium is a vibrant network of thinkers who care about the world and making it better — through their craft, their stories, and their ideas. More than a network of thinkers, though, Medium is a network of thought. Connecting people together increases their knowledge and capabilities. Connecting ideas together increases their value, as well.
Medium is not for everybody, but it’s open to everybody. It encourages participation and a diversity of opinion. Anyone can earn influence on Medium via the value of their ideas, thoughtfulness of their responses, or quality of their rhetoric.” Ev Williams, Founder of Medium
