When we get a little down, we just think WRFA loves us and we love them.

Devil in a Dream Part I - Music Video

We felt the need to creep you out a little bit before we film our music video for Devil in a Dream Part II.

So here is Devil in a Dream

This is a song we recorded on a handheld recorder on the third floor of my parent’s house back in the early aughts. We could never seem to capture the magic of the off-the-cuff version so we decided to put that version out on our second album Funeral Genius as the last track.

I'm Glad Music Video

Our music video for I’m Glad is here!

This song is about the moms. Mark lost his mom and I lost mine all too recently.

My mom, Margaret DeAngelis, underwent brain surgery to remove a congenital cyst growing and pressing on her brain 22 odd years ago. After the surgery she was better overnight, it was amazing. This song was about how relieved we were she was ok. She had about 15-16 good years but then the damage from the cyst caused her supranuclear palsy and we finally lost her on June 13, 2021.

Mark’s mom, Nancy Purnell, passed away from lung cancer in October 2018. She was an artist and art teacher up until the end of her life. You can read about one of her posthumously shows here.

Filmed on the rooftop of our building. This song is from our latest album Fancy Hercules.

The Roots Music Report's Top Blues Rock Album Chart for 2021 & 2022

Our album, Fancy Hercules is on The Roots Music Report’s Top Blues Rock Album Chart for 2021 and for 2022!

We’re climbing the charts!!!! We’re ahead of ZZ Top & Melissa Etheridge. Pretty cool for an indie band!

Fantastic Review of I'm Alright on Music Existence

We received a fantastic review of our song I’m Alright on Music Existence:

It’s hard to pick a fav section in this review. But we think it’s this:

“Knowing that they have the street credit, the indie rock darlings of the world, I rooted for Makar’s overall essence. It’s like walking into a vintage store, all the yellows, the greens, the rust colors – and feeling an overwhelming sense of sunshine and love. They somehow embody this punk world but let in shards of light and optimism. If they were a periodical, Makar would be the homemade kind you used to grab on your way out of the downtown record stores. Someone took the time to make a run to Kinkos and make those music rags.”

Nexus Music Blog loves Love and Confusion

Oh joy, Nexus Music Blog loves Love and Confusion!

A little sampling of their review below:

“With a toe-tapping beat and head-bopping melodic arrangement, Makar wraps you in a kaleidoscopic blanket floating in a cinematic soundscape.”

Glamglare SELECTS I Want To Be Loved as a video of the week

Our video I Want to be Loved was a Glamglare video pick of the week for of January 10, 2022

Here’s what they had to say about us:

“NYC duo MAKAR does not need much to bring a story to life, in this case, “Petronella” by Jay Williams. They put a lot of good vibes into music and visuals, so enjoy a five-minute break from the cold January weather.”
